Here's a rather rare drum kit from Roberto Gatto's collection. Completely original, in very good condition, and without any alterations or modifications.
18"x14", 12"x8", 13"x9", 14"x14", poplar shells, AL finish (Aluminum, presumably...). This wrap finish was only available on the President, Max Roach and Tronicdrum lines.
Born in the early 1970s from the collaboration between Franco Caldironi and Meazzi, the Wooding brand did not have a long life but produced very interesting instruments that are still sought after by drummers and collectors, including the acrylic Cristalline model.
This set is comparable to a Hollywood President, Meazzi's top-of-the-line; in fact, we find the exact same technical solutions regarding the quick-release tension lugs with the clips that attach the hoops, the bass drum legs, and the floor tom legs. The toms, floor tom, and bass drum have the same internal mutes (except for the 13" tom, which doesn't even have the Wooding badge). The tension lugs are the same ones found on HiPercussion drums, another brand born from the brilliant mind of Franco Caldironi.
This beautiful drum kit is decidedly rare due to its size, and it would be enough to find another tom arm to be able to also mount the 13" tom, making this set even more personal and interesting.
I deliberately left the individual drums' intonations unchanged, as Roberto Gatto had them; the result is a high, warm, and resonant timbre, with great definition and body.
A set suitable not only for collectors, but also for those jazz drummers looking for an instrument with an ever-fascinating vintage sound.
