Used drum kit, in excellent, near mint condition. 22"x16", 10"x7", 12"x8", 16"x16", 14"x6.5" snare drum. Gloss Java Lacebark Pine lacquer finish.
For over forty years, the Superstar name has been synonymous with innovative design, excellent build quality, and a full-bodied, powerful sound. Today's Superstar Classic is actually very different, starting with its production made in China while the historic one was produced in Japan.
It is a very respectable instrument, however; maple shells (5 mm. and six layers for toms and snare, 7 mm. and eight layers for the bass drum), Star-Mount rims, MTH600 tom holder, sturdy and with comfortable and precise adjustments. The lacquers are all very beautiful, and this "Gloss Java Lacebark Pine" is truly effective and very elegant.
The sound of this set is surprising, and would make you think of another price level; the toms are well balanced, with a strong attack and a good volume, the kick drum is very defined and has a full and powerful tone; the snare drum has a good dose of versatility, having a good range of intonation and dynamics. The original (Chinese) heads have been replaced with Remo Pinstripe Clear batters and Ambassador Clear resonant for toms and floor tom, Powerstroke 3 Clear batter and Ebony resonant for the kick drum, Ambassador Coated batter and Ambassador Hazy resonant for the snare drum. An added - economic - value not insignificant.
A drum line that bears a prestigious name, and, although very different from the original produced from the late '70s to the early '80s, does not disappoint the expectations of those drummers looking for a reliable instrument. In its price range I believe it is the best conceived and made instrument.
