SONOR Phonic Rosewood, 1980s.
SONOR Phonic Rosewood, 1980s.
Three poor orphans have been recovered, restored and assembled to form a truly successful Jazz set. Original Phonic series shells dating back to the early 80s, 18”x14”, 12”x8”, 14”x14”.
Let's see in detail the job carried out, drum by drum.
The bass drum was originally a floor tom; brought to a depth of 14”, all the holes were professionally closed, a layer of beech glued inside to hide the holes, original Sonor hardware installed except for the metal hoops. A pair of beech hoops covered, like the rest of the shells, in Rosewood is available at an extra cost of € 80.00.
The tom had some modifications, including a Pearl tom bracket. All the holes were professionally filled, an original Sonor block was installed, and a layer of beech was glued inside to hide the holes.
The floor tom was a suspended tom; all the holes were professionally closed, three original Sonor leg brackets were installed, and a layer of beech was glued inside to hide the holes. However, two closed holes are visible, probably due to incorrect positioning during final assembly before gluing the outer ply.
The Rosewood satin finish is really elegant, very beautiful.
In conclusion, not a drum kit for collectors – obviously – but a perfectly cared for professional instrument with an indisputably Sonor sound: precise, defined, full-bodied.
