A very nice and rare drum kit, in perfect condition; 18”x12”, 12”x8”, 14”x14”, Black wrap finish.
A reconditioned, factory-fresh Rogers Jazz set made in England; Rogers drum kits made in England were commissioned by the American company to Boosey & Hawkes between 1961 and 1968. The shells are the same ones we can later find on Ajax drum kits, produced by the same B & H, with hardware almost identical to that of the American Rogers: “tall” steel hoops, very thick, high and heavy, “bread and butter” tension lugs (in use from 1959 to 1963), tom holders and “Swivomatic” bass drum legs.
The distinctive feature of these very thin shells -. presumably birch - is their vertical grain and plywood reinforcement edges. One of B&H's leading craftsmen at the time was Eddie Ryan, who began his own production in the early 1970s until his passing in 2019. This drum set displays the same expertise found in all the drums of his long career, some of which I proudly own and play.
The tone of this little gem is deep and warm, with good volume and definition. It's a truly beautiful and rare set, considering the 18" bass drum wasn't available in the catalog. An elegant and refined set.
