Here's a truly wonderful and iconic drum kit: Downbeat, produced in 1969, 20"x14", 12"x8", 14"x14", mahogany/poplar/maple ply shells with maple reinforcement rings, natural finish interior, and a fantastic Black Oyster Pearl color, made famous by Ringo Starr. And this very Downbeat set was the first and second used by the Beatles drummer.

I'll start by pointing out the very few flaws of this drum kit: there are two holes in the lower part of the bass drum, judging by the spacing they seem to be for a bass drum and floor tom leg bracket, but in that position... Who knows...

We note that the keystone badge on the bass drum is a bit worn, probably abraded during polishing of the drum, and the grommet (certainly damaged) has been replaced with a generic one. The current situation can be clearly seen in the photos; it will be quite easy to reinstall a grommet identical to the original, we leave the choice to the future owner.

Finally, I would like to point out two small missing portions of wrap in the inlay of a bass drum hoop, and a couple of original but currently produced P1216D lugs. Here too, it will be very easy to find a couple of vintage spare parts, many can be found around the web.

That said, there's little left to add. A set like this, original, with 57 years of music behind it and in this beautiful Black Oyster finish speaks for itself. I emphasize the presence of round felt mufflers on the tom and floor tom, the rail consolette in perfect condition, the original and intact front bass drum head, and most importantly, a legendary sound.
